Pantocrator looks down from Heaven, Lavra Catholicon, digital print from 35mm slide, 1986

The image of Christ Pantocrator (ruler of all) is surrounded by angels and prophets within the central dome of the Lavra’s main church. The entire composition, comprising Christ, angels, and prophets, is a representation of heaven that reveals itself ethereally to the viewer. The various chains and metal links are connected to lighting fixtures that hang below. Light from windows and candles reveal just enough of the figures to give them the impression of vacillating presence.
